* August 14th - BSDC Trip to Grabill, IN........ AUGUST 14 – GRABILL, INDIANA - This is a day trip to the lovely town of Grabill, Indiana hosted by Will Stevenson. Do not bring horses to this event. We will meet at Meijers Store parking lot, 10301 Maysville Rd ( which is SR 37), Ft. Wayne, Indiana at 10:00 AM ET. From there Will plans to show us around Grabill, located in the middle of an Old Order Amish settlement. There are many quaint shops, antique shops, P & B Harness Shop, Zera’s Mfg., Graber’s Harness Shop and Vic Graber’s Buggy Shop all within a 5-10 mile radius. Friends of Will’s plan to have a team of Dutch Harness horses and Halflingers at the harness shop. Lunch time we will stop at Nolt’s Dinner Haus and then Will and Shirley welcome us to their home to see their Morgans and carriage collection. Directions: From the East: From Findlay (approx 90 miles) take 30 west to Ft. Wayne (crossing into Indiana), merge onto 469 N/ 30 W. Take the Indiana – 37 exit (exit 25) towards Ft. Wayne, left onto Maysville Rd (37), Meijers is on the right side.

PICNIC IN THE PARK DRIVE, INDEPENDENCE DAM, Defiance, OH, September 11 – Independence Dam is located on St Rt 424 between the Villages of Florida and Independence, along the banks of the Maumee River. The drive is not a potluck but instead bring your own picnic lunch, drive along the canal and stop at the shelterhouse where we will serve you lemonade, ice tea, and a refreshing dessert. You can then drive on down the canal and turn around which will be about 4 ½ miles roundtrip from the parking area. . “Social Hour” will be 12-1 at the marina parking lot and then hitch up and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the canal road. Hosted by Al & Angie Hohenbrink and Jackie & Mike Minges for members of the Black Swamp Driving Club and Henry Co Draft Horse Club. Directions: From the North: 75 South to Bowling Green Rd (US 6), west on US 6, left onto OH 109, right on CR-L/Delphi St, continue to follow CR-L, left onto CR-Z, right onto Henry St,left on High (OH 424). Follow 424 to Independence Dam.
From the South: 75 North, exit 171 towards OH 25, Cygnet. Left onto Cygnet Rd, right onto Otsego Pike/OH 235, left on Defiance Pike/OH 281. Continue to follow OH 281, right onto CR 18, CR 18 becomes CR-Z, left onto Henry St, left onto High St/OH 424. Follow old 424 to Dam entrance.
( Route 424 has had a name change just this year. Some of the signs will say Lawrence Livingston Highway) Most maps and GPS will probably still say Route 424)

*October 30 - Julie Emmons Halloween Hayride at their farm. Bonfire, weiner roast, s'mores and a hayride around their farm, 9863 Harding Hwy W., LaRue, OH, . Please do not bring horses. Halloween costumes are optional. Time: 3:30. Directions: From the west Rt. 68 to Kenton, 309 East 11 ½ miles. After passing the Hardin Co Line it is the 4th house on the right. From the East: take 309 west (15 miles from Marion). Big Island is 5 miles, then another 5 miles to Meeker, then 5 miles to the farm. When you pass the grain elevator it is the 7th house on the left. November 13th - Annual Banquet and Auction to be held this year at Golden Corral, 1843 Tiffin Ave., Findlay, Oh 45840. Social time is 5:30-6 PM. Price is $9.99 plus $1.99/drinks. No advance reservations needed. The election of 2011 Board Members will take place. Mary Elliott (our resident ringmaster) has agreed to be our auctioneer again this year - thanks Mary. Please bring items for the auction. All proceeds go to BSDC.

We are lucky to have a new holiday drive this year. CHRISTMAS AT THE FARM DRIVE – December 18 - Kenton, Ohio. Come and enjoy the holiday spirit at the Old Schoolhouse on Hardin Co Historical Museum’s Yost Farm. Gather round the pot-bellied stove for hot chocolate and fellowship. Sleighs and sleds will be displayed. Gary will be giving sleigh rides (even if there is no snow). Bring your horses, carriages or sleighs. This is not a potluck, but please bring cookies, cupcakes or snacks. Restroom facilities are available and they hope to have the barn available in case of inclement weather. Time: 1-5 PM. The Farm will be open to the public. Let’s all pray for snow.
